Vaughan Rapatahana lives in Hong Kong, with a house in Aotearoa-New Zealand and also a home in Pampanga, Philippines. He has lived in various parts of Asia for over 14 years. He first went to OutLoud in 2003 and has been a semi-regular attendee since 2008. He has published in a variety of genre worldwide, including poetry, fiction, philosophy, language critique and poetry teaching resources. He was Semi-finalist of the inaugural Proverse Prize in Literature, 2009 and placed in 2013 erbacce poetry competition. Two collections of his poetry were published in 2011: Home Away Elsewhere (Proverse Hong Kong) and china as kafka (Kilmog Press, Dunedin, Aotearoa) and he has poems in many publications internationally in recent years. 2012 saw the publication of the critique of English language agencies English Language as Hydra (Multilingual Matters, U.K), a book of newer poems entitled Schisms (Stonesthrow Poetry, Nevada, USA) and other books, reviews, articles, while 2013 saw his novel entitled Toa published (Atuanui Press, Aotearoa-New Zealand). More recently in 2014, his publications include: Expand Your Mind with Poetry Books One and Two (Essential Resources, Aotearoa-New Zealand) and OutLoud Too - an anthology of Hong Kong poets (MCCM Creations, Hong Kong) (Co-Editor.) Forthcoming in 2015 will be a further collection of poems entitled Atonement (ASM/Flying Islands, Macau and MCCM Creations, Hong Kong) and Why English? Confronting the Hydra (Multilingual Matters, U.K.) — a follow up to English Language as Hydra (Co-Editor.) Rapatahana has a Ph.D from the University of Auckland.
