MANUEL VICENTE: CARESSING TRIVIA 葡萄牙籍建築大師韋先禮—撫摸瑣事
about this book
關於這本書
by Eric K C Lye
Manuel Vicente: Caressing Trivia is about Manuel Vicente, a Portuguese architect who practiced extensively in Macau and whose designs expressed a unique architectural synthesis of Western and Chinese cultures, leaving an influential mark on present-day Macau.
It is also a tribute to the late Professor Eric Lye, who started researching and writing this book seven years before he passed away in 2003. Beyond documenting Vicente's practice, it shows Lye’s dedication to his students, who were the inspiration and drive behind his creativity and pedagogy, and his call-to-action to ‘know one’s beginning’ and ‘our identity’ in an age of the dynamics of cultural hybridity.
Professor Lye leads us towards an appreciation of not only Vicente’s architecture, but also of his thoughts, conceptual approach, and sensitivity to ‘care and sing about’ trivia.
Manuel Vicente: Caressing Trivia was launched on 29 July 2006 at the HKU SPACE 50th anniversary exhibition. Proceeds from book sales are donated to the Professor Eric Lye Architectural Education Fund.
